Big Beautiful Bill: Week 1
8/11/20252 min read

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been reading through the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
In the morning, before work.
At my desk between meetings.
In the car running errands (thanks to text-to-speech readers).
From fascinating to downright dull and everything in between, I’m going line by line through all 900 pages.
And tonight at 6 PM, we start sifting through it together.
We’re beginning with the sections that impact not just everyday Americans, but Oklahomans specifically.
YOUR FRIDGE. YOUR DOCTOR. YOUR FOOD SUPPLY.
Starting January 1, 2026, Oklahoma faces two major policy shifts that could touch every one of them.
Shift One: The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), massive federal changes that include:
Longer waits for SNAP benefit updates
New work requirements for adults aged 50–54
Removal of internet costs from allowable deductions
Revised non-citizen eligibility rules
Shift Two: The Make Oklahoma Healthy Again (MOHA) initiative, six state bills from Sen. Dusty Deevers that could change how Oklahomans approach food, medicine, and health freedom.
The Six MOHA Bills
SB 943 — The Medical Freedom Act
Establishes the right to refuse medical procedures, treatments, or vaccines, with protections for whistleblowers.SB 702 — The Health Education Act
Refocuses school health education on physical health, exercise, and nutrition.SB 771 — Banning Direct-to-Consumer Pharmaceutical Advertising
Ends TV and media drug advertisements in Oklahoma.SB 801 — The Medicine Injury Justice Act
Authorizes state legal action against pharmaceutical companies whose products cause harm.SB 941 — The Truth in Medicine Act
Requires public ingredient lists for all medications.SJR 8 — The Food Freedom Amendment
Adds a constitutional right to grow and buy food from any source.
When you combine OBBBA’s federal provisions with MOHA’s state-level changes, the effects could be wide-reaching, especially for Oklahoma families, seniors, farmers, and rural communities.
At Westside Community Center, we’re not here to spin this.
We’re here to break it down nonpartisan and fact-first, so you can see the fine print for yourself.
We’ll explore:
What’s actually in the bill
How state and federal shifts intersect
What it could mean for your household and community
