Juneteenth Celebration

Join us for a day of celebration and unity as we commemorate Juneteenth at the Westside Community Center, Bartlesville's multicultural hub and community resource center!

What is Juneteenth?

Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, marks the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Texas learned of their emancipation, over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This day has since become a symbol of African American freedom and resilience. In Bartlesville, the Westside Community Center (WCC) echoes this spirit of empowerment. Established 80 years ago, WCC originally served as a haven for African American children, providing a safe space for education and community. Over the decades, its mission has expanded, transforming into a vibrant multicultural hub that embraces individuals of all ages, races, and socioeconomic backgrounds. The history of Juneteenth beautifully aligns with the Westside Community Center's legacy, both celebrating the power of community, diversity, and our shared commitment to unity.

You’ll hear the story of how freedom truly came to Oklahoma, in a way that will stay with you long after the day is over.

Then, we celebrate—WCC style:
🔥 BBQ Smoke-Off
🏀 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament
🚩 Flag Raising at 3PM
🎶 Music, Car Shows, Kids Zone & More!

Saturday, June 21st | 3PM – 8PM
Let’s celebrate the past, the victory, and the community that keeps moving forward.

At WCC, Juneteenth is more than a celebration—it’s a time to honor resilience, victory, and legacy. This year, we’re diving into a powerful chapter of Oklahoma history—one that turned delayed freedom into thriving Black communities that still inspire today.

Because Oklahoma was Indian Territory, the Emancipation Proclamation didn’t bring freedom here right away. But when it came, it sparked the formation of historically Black towns, built on strength, vision, and determination.

And this year—we’re pulling you back in time.

We’ve got a keynote speaker lined up who will take you on a remarkable journey through this history.
