Juneteenth Celebration

Join us for a day of celebration and unity as we commemorate Juneteenth and the grand reopening of the Westside Community Center, Bartlesville's multicultural hub and community resource center!

What is Juneteenth?

Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, marks the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Texas learned of their emancipation, over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This day has since become a symbol of African American freedom and resilience. In Bartlesville, the Westside Community Center (WCC) echoes this spirit of empowerment. Established 80 years ago, WCC originally served as a haven for African American children, providing a safe space for education and community. Over the decades, its mission has expanded, transforming into a vibrant multicultural hub that embraces individuals of all ages, races, and socioeconomic backgrounds. The history of Juneteenth beautifully aligns with the Westside Community Center's legacy, both celebrating the power of community, diversity, and our shared commitment to unity.

WCC's Juneteenth Celebration.

The mission of our Juneteenth celebration is to honor the rich legacy of the Westside Community Center (WCC), a cornerstone of Bartlesville's history for 80 years. Originally established to support African American children, WCC has evolved into a vibrant multicultural hub and resource center. Our celebration not only commemorates the significance of Juneteenth but also underscores our commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive community. We strive to empower individuals of all ages, races, and socioeconomic backgrounds, continuing the legacy of unity and resilience that WCC embodies.

  • We will thank you from the stage

  • Your logo or name on WCC social media, website, and email newsletter to several hundred community members

  • You will be a Friend of Westside!

Westside Community Center has over 30 volunteers who are organizing the Juneteenth event, which will include music, entertainment, vintage cars on display, a kids' zone filled with fun activities and games, hot dogs on the grill, speakers, and special guests, vendors, food trucks, and a celebration of our shared history and beloved community. We want to have a Bouncy House for the kids -- and we are asking for your help to make this happen!

All funds raised beyond the Bouncy House rental costs will be dedicated to creating an amazing kids' zone with fun activities and games, covering other Juneteenth event expenses, and supporting the Westside Community Center (WCC). As one of Bartlesville's oldest non-profits and a 501(c)(3) organization, your donations are tax-deductible. Your support will not only help us secure the Bouncy House and ensure the event's success but also enable us to continue offering excellent programs and activities, such as WCC's after-school programs, business mentorship and apprenticeships for high schoolers, educational workshops for all ages, cultural events, bringing back the summer fine arts program, and exciting new initiatives we'll share at the event!
